The start of something special.
I believe in miracles. I think that thousands of them happen everyday.
Unfortunately, I experience very few with the proper reverence. My limited perspective allows me to stumble into a moment of complete awe and humility only rarely. But it doesn’t stop me from knowing that they exist, in vast multitudes.
The most obvious of miracles is a baby. As far as miracles go, babies qualify as the clumsy, double-left-footed, drooling dancers on center-stage in the play of life—they are unmistakable. I mean, if you don’t recognize them as bonafide miracles, then it’s time to retire from making judgments on just about anything else. (As a creepy aside, have you ever taken stock of the fact that your original baby-ness struck someone as proof of miracles? Trust me, it did.)
With the millions of miracles out there, it seems fitting on Valentine’s Day to take pause and recognize a couple. My life is blessed with two kids, who are amazing. And, while my children are stuck with me by sheer good fortune on my part, I also have a partner, who braved this marriage completely (well…at least to a large degree) on his own free will. I feel immensely grateful for both.
These are two of the many miracles that constitute my life. I think miracles are a bit like sprinkles, rarely do we have the time and patience to acknowledge the uniqueness and complexity of each one, but when we bear witness to them “en masse”—it is truly a sight to behold. They are beautiful, delicious, and evoke mouth-watering smiles in all who look upon them.
Here’s to each and every “sprinkle” gracing your cookie, may they all serve to enhance its sweetness, add a hint of texture, and perhaps even a humorous bite.
Begin by rolling out your standard sugar dough recipe.
Roll and cut. Roll and cut.
Frost and Decorate.
Don't skimp on the sprinkles. They're like cowbells...you can never have too much.
What's a plate of Valentine's cookies without a little smile?
Feel the love.
And you'll be mine forever.
LOVE this post! So much happiness (and sprinkles) oozing out from it. You are lucky to have your wonderful family, and they you.
ReplyDeletep.s. I've got a fever. And the only prescription...is more cowbell.
I love this post, too. Cowbells and sprinkles! (New blog name?) Great photos. The sweetest family ever.
