Toothsome Tuesday: Banana

My life could easily be measured as a series of showdowns with bananas.

They turn up. They turn brown. They turn me from baker to battle axe.

Every time this troublesome transformer throws down the gauntlet, I have to admit, I learn something. A lesson in creative capitulation, reluctant resignation or simple surrender comes with its little life cycle on my counter. I can’t say that about many other fruits.

The next hand of bananas ripening slowly in the kitchen will vex me. I know this, but I won’t stop buying them. Truthfully, I adore them and I could not imagine my kitchen without them sitting in the corner quietly keeping time in perfect freckled beats.

Banana Fact:
In Uganda, bananas are such a big part of the diet that the same word, matooke,
is used for both "food" and "banana."

Banana Quote:
"Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana."
